11th Annual 100km del Sahara (62.1 Miles) Race

by Michael Tieso on January 28, 2009

Race 100km/62.1 miles into one of the world’s largest desert, the Sahara Desert. Magnificent scenery, beautiful silence, and an enchanting sky are just some of the benefits you will receive running through the Sahara Desert. I’d imagine at the end of the race, it will be the most rewarding experience of you life. A strong mind and body is a must. Are you up for the challenge?

March 7th to 13th, 2009
The race is broken into 4 days of running while the first few nights are used for preparing. Each night they provide a tent and plenty of food. There are check points where all runners meet each day (indicated by the tents below). Approximately 150 people participate from all over the world. As described by the website, this is a demanding race but not an extreme one.

The “100 km Sahara” leg race is, out of the range of annual proposals, the one that offers the keen runner the possibility to measure himself on a running challenge to the desert, rejoicing at the same time of that minimum assistance that is necessary to facilitate all the runners absorbed in their aim. The desert is fascinating but it is certainly the least suitable environment for running, therefore it will be necessary to have both a good psychological attitude and a specific training, but the goal of the organisers is to take all the participants across the finish line, and everything has been done to meet this end, without giving any discounts to the race itself. – http://www.100kmdelsahara.com
