New York City summers have always been a pleasure; as long as the weather cooperates. Summer 2010 after being spoiled with a Winter Summer in South America has actually been quite pleasing. After meeting wonderful people abroad, I was able to coordinate a summer trip to The Netherlands. As a true budget traveler, I am [...]

One of the most beautiful beaches I have seen in my travels so far was in Railay, Thailand. Phra Nang Beach is the postcard destination you dream of and even when you’re there, it still seems like you’re looking directly at a postcard.
Over the weekend, the buzz over Eat, Pray, Love exploded all over the travel world. Anticipation for the movie based on the true life story of solo female traveler Liz Gilbert has led to one big conversation over the now released film. For now, it seems as if you either love it or you hate it. Personally, the story resonates moments in my life that puts a smile on my face. Whether you’re a world traveler or astonished by this newfound idea, the film will get to you in one way or another.
Though far in time, there’s no better time to recall a grand celebration during the summer time. The fesitivies associated with Carnaval usually remind people of the colorful parades in Brazil. Scandalous outfits, huge crowds and uproar of madness throughout the city. Little do most people know that the 2nd biggest Carnaval celebration resides in Oruro, Bolivia. It is also part of Mankind’s Masterpieces of the Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity by the UNESCO foundation. I was lucky enough to participate during my South American summer in Winter during one fabulous weekend in February.
May 12th, 2009 – I’m at the airport about to leave for my one year RTW trip when my brother (ten years old at the time) takes my backpack to try it on. He could barely walk with it because of the weight. Looks good on him!
I have thousands of pictures of me standing in front of moments, landscapes, and buildings from my travels. Since I’m backpacking, I don’t have much of a selection of clothes. They look as if I’ve been standing in front of a blue screen changing the scenery on Photoshop. It get boring after awhile. What about the people you meet, the partying, and random encounters? These moments need to be captured.
Today’s guest post is by Emily Hutto. This is her experience of a day in Salvador, Brazil with her camera. It’s a reminder that there are times that we need to put down the camera and see the world through our own eyes. – Michael Tieso
After a month of World Cup 2010 mania, the winner is Spain; who beat The Netherlands after what seemed to be the longest game ever. With such a dynamic match up, its easy to understand why the game remained scoreless for 90 minutes. But, there is only one winner and the Spaniards are ecstatic after their first World Cup win. I’ve visited Spain on multiple occasions and everyone should as well
When you are born and raised in a city like New York; its easy to forget what makes it glow. Hot summer days are upon us; bringing sweaty and uncomfortable subway rides, long lines at Jamba Juice (My favorites place to get a smoothie.) and watching sunsets at Hudson River Park. Its too bad the New York summer seems to fall short; truly beginning at this time and ending right on Labor Day the first week of September. It has been a while since summer has extended its visit here. Maybe that is what makes such a New York City summer so special; its limited appearance.
