Updated Policy: July 16th, 2010
What kinds of feature or regular formats do you publish?
Budget travel related. It must fit the overall theme of Art of Backpacking.
What are AOB’s requirements and guidelines?
- A minimum of 400 words.
- Your writing MUST be professional. By professional we mean using proper grammar. Even when writing to request a guest post, you need to set an example of how you write by writing a proper email in the contact form.We are not going to publish poorly written articles. You don’t have to be a professional writer to know how to write well. Please do not be offended if we do not accept your article. Understand that we have dozens of requests per week and can only use a few.
- Use the search feature to see if the article topic has been covered. No duplicate information unless you are adding a great deal of new information.
- NEW Must Read: Because of the number of requests we are receiving for writing just for an SEO advantage, we are EXTREMELY limiting these type of requests by close to zero. We need REAL content and not half done just to get your keywords in. I repeat… REAL content. The only certain link we’ll allow is in the Footer Bio which will lead to more information about yourself. There are exceptions, however chances are we may need to know you already.

OK. I´ve got an article idea and I´d like to submit it. What do I do next?
- Contact us. Send a sample paragraph of what you want to write about or what you’ve already written. Get us interested and pitch it.
- Next, create a bio for yourself in the email (Don’t make it long, it goes in the footer). Send me your website, facebook, and/or twitter if you have one.
- Create an account on Gravatar if you haven’t already, this is the avatar it’ll be using. Send the email address you used to register it with.
- Contact us after you’ve done all this.
Can I include a picture with my article?
Absolutely. We encourage pictures you’ve taken yourself that relates to the article. If you´d like to display your own picture, mention it and we´ll arrange it. The picture needs to capture what is being said in the article. High quality and well displayed photographs if you can. If the picture is from an outside source that’s not taken by you, it’s preferred to choose pictures from our selection. If you don’t already have pictures, let us take care of it for you.
What do I get in return?
Currently we do not pay our contributors however you are more then welcome to include your own ad on the right side for your articles (Where our Google Ad box is on the right currently) for that article. This includes your own Google Adsense ad, Amazon Affiliates (If you’re writing a review for a book, movie, or product perhaps), or even an ad to your own website.
This is up to you but it will need to be related in some way to the article you’ve written. The end result can lead to much more then just a one time article pay if your article is successful. We will insert the ad for you. Also – a Bio about yourself will be included in the footer of the article which will have details about yourself and any links you may have. (Read on No SEO only articles)
