Happiness is a Journey, Not a Destination

When I was a kid, I used to carry a blank notebook. It was a clue that I’d grow up to be a travel writer. Everywhere I went, I wrote down ideas, things I liked. As I got older, I started collecting quotes. I wish I knew where that book was. I had pages filled of interesting things people said or quotes I enjoyed.

Everyday I’m on my laptop at home, I have a small postcard with a beautiful quote.

“For a long time, it seemed to me that life was about to begin- real life. But there was always some obstacle in the way, something to be gotten through first, some unifnished business, time still to be served, a debt to be paid. At last it dawned on me that these obstacles were my life. This perspective has helped me to see there is no way to happiness. Happiness is the way. So treasure every moment you have and remember that time waits for no one.

Happiness is a journey, not a destination.” – souza

It is one of those quotes you see on magnets, journals and women’s handbags.

And it has so much to do with backpacking on so many levels. For some, backpacking is a new experience in which they want to escape their former life. Its a new beginning and a fresh start on something adventurous. And it continues on and seems like it has no end when you’re on it.

Do you agree with the statement? How do you feel about your journey?
