Backpackers, Travelers, and the Deal savvy of the world were crushed February 26th with the Breaking News that the Best Rate Guarantee by the Wyndham Hotel Group would end its popular booking deal: Find a cheaper room, get it for free! Thanks to the BRG Blog, many of us were able to catch on to great deals and get a free nights stay! But, by April 1st, Wyndham Hotel Group will only honor the lower rate plus 10% off.
Were are not sure when the Best Rate Guarantee began, but the BRG blog seems to have an estimated beginning of January 2008. This elaborate and descriptive website was your bible when it came down to finding a best rate. It features many articles with screen shots and an informative FAQs that guides newcomers to correctly book a BRG.

You see, the Wyndham group has knowledge of the BRG blog and how it makes it easier for the travel savvy to score free nights. We are all surprised (and thankful) that his blog was able to launch and grow without any possible threat by the Wyndham group. Basically, his site is a nice little cheat sheet to free rooms! The BRG guys lists a hand full of finds on his part to rooms around the United States. You, as a customer yourself, can find your own rooms with a BRG, which means any other site must have a lower rate than the Wyndham group. Skylab found a BRG at Days Inn Beijing!
We all guess, in a slowing economy, it is very difficult to accommodate free rooms with thousands of viewers who have caught on to his blog. We at AOB were also late on this finding of his site and oh how we wish we knew about it sooner!
What does this mean for everybody? For the followers of BRG, we have a month together to snag some good deals!
For the Wyndham group, we have mixed feelings. We completely understand their reasoning’s; once again reiterating that we are in a bad economy and it is difficult to honor so many free requests with a blog giving you a “get a hotel room free” card. As the BRG guys mentioned, they gave us a month in advance before the put a plug to their program. They could have easily ended their guarantee last night.
We just can’t seem to swallow this one too easily. We’ve tried to book some BRG’s and it seems almost impossible. Here is our scenario. Yesterday, Skylab booked two BRG’s: One for Beijing and one for New York City. They were booked around the same time. Number one was denied within a few hours because the website was a voucher site that he did not realize; a legit reason. Number two, for New York, was denied the next day because in the time it took for them to respond, suddenly the rates dropped and there was no valid case. Although we understand this happens a lot of the time, lately, since the deadline for the BRG rate is soon approaching, we feel that it has become extremely difficult to successfully book even one free room.
