Note: I know you are all wondering why I am writing a review for a girl’s jacket- well, let’s just say the XL Size 18/20 was a just right fit! Its a nice plus that it saved me $40 for a woman’s jacket!
Now that the New York tri-state area had its first snow storm, there is nothing like the perfect jacket to keep you warm and dry outdoors. Actually, I purchased the Columbia Hampton Trail Jacket a few months prior to a trip to Montreal, Canada for Thanksgiving break.
Contrary to popular belief, the week I spent in Canada wasn’t as cold as I had expected. Or, could it be that my jacket was warm enough to not even feel the cold up North?
The Hampton Trails jacket is made of 100% nylon, and insulated with Columbia’s patendted “Microtemp” insulation. To me, I would nickname this the “Fleece and Down” insulation. The sleeves felt like airy clouds, fluffy, but not as though you felt like the Stay Puft Marshmallow Man from Ghostbusters.
Small features I particularly enjoy are big pockets that I can fit my gloves and cellular phone. Alas, there is a nifty music pocket for your Ipod (Or Zune) to fit inside the jacket.
Caught in a rain storm? Luckily, this jacket is not only winter-proof, it is rain proof. I’ve walked in a few down pours and in minutes of being indoors, the jacket gets very dry.
Last but not least, the over-sized hood lined with faux fur makes you look like a cute little Eskimo. I like it because the fur just tickles my face and
keeps it warm.
I can’t say enough about this jacket. I was very happy with my purchase. It came out to $79.99, but remember this was a kid’s jacket. If you are looking for a nice jacket for a child, this is perfect, but if you can, perhaps you can make a fit, believe me, it is a great investment. The jacket comes in 6 colors: Begonia (A fuschia-purple color), White, Bark (Brown- which is the jacket I purchased), Blue Yonder (Sky Blue), Nulberry (Plum Purple), and Cherry. (Red)
