The First Post

by Teresa Gotay on December 4, 2008

So here I am! Ms. Art of Backpacking here to welcome you to our site! Basically, we are clearing out the cobwebs and getting our battery charged to fully launch our backpacking site.

Often as a writer, it is difficult to choose your first words to begin a topic or discussion. I decided my first post would be about “The First Post” Here are some general tips to break out of the mold and get those words per minute typing!

1. Organization! Put those ideas into motion by jotting them down- whether it is bullet points, sentences or chicken scratch.

2. Subject- What are you writing about? What is the main idea of your subject? What are you trying to convey your reader?

3. Paragraphs- The method to my madness is taking these ideas and putting it into paragraphs:

P1

P2

P3

And so on. Thank you to my 12th grade high school English teacher for getting me addicted to this way to organize. What this will do is keep your ideas coherent and within topic, rather than a post that is going in a million directions.

4. Write away! By now, everything should be falling into place. Focus on making sure your topics flow within the main point of your post. It keeps the reader interested rather than lost.

Those are the basic guidelines I usually follow when it comes to anything I write. Make sure you are comfortable and you understand what you’re writing. Just let it flow and the words will come!

  • Similar with comments: just let the words flow referencing the main focus of the post...and the first (well, second) comment is produced.
  • Good information! :)
