Perhaps you’ve seen the e-surance commercial everywhere, for months you’ve been told to turn off your lights to support the earth, but did you turn off the lights for Earth Hour?
If you did not know, global activists have been promoting Earth Hour- which was yesterday, March 28th, 2009 from 8:30-9:30pm. All you had to do was turn off your lights for an hour, to send a message to the world that something needs to be done about Global Warming. It is a chance to prove to the world leaders that people around the world can come together and prove how serious they are about conserving energy and making the planet a little more green.
The official Earth Hour site tallied votes for those who pledged to turn off the lights. The results will be presented at the Global Climate Change Conference in Copenhagen 2009; where world leaders will discuss solutions against Global Warming. The site is very interactive and includes videos of Earth Hour being celebrated around the world and gives people a chance to upload their photos on how they celebrated.
Who do we thank for Earth Hour? Well, In 2007, 2.2 million Australians in Sydney switched off their lights for an hour, inspiring the world to do so in 2009. Activists hope 1 billion people joined together and celebrated Earth hour. This year, we anticipate the results and look forward to what Earth Hour will mean for the future of our globe. Will this be a yearly event? Will world leaders finally understand and make more drastic measures towards helping our earth? Did anyone capture any satellite images of the lights shutting off?
Hopefully, Earth Hour will shed a positive light on how important Global Warming is; how preserving our earth for the future should be something we should think about in the present.
Tell us what you guys did for Earth Hour.
